Lightning Up

Greetings Ghost Fans,

Perhaps one of the most disappointing scenes in the Walt Disney World Haunted Mansion is the Music Room. Guests have complained for years as to the cheesiness of the cutout of a ghost that slams down on the keys of the piano. However, this is not how the scene originally worked.

Many years ago, the only way that you saw the Phantom Pianist wasn't from the moonlight, but rather lightning from outside the window which would show his shadow temporarily. With the removal of many bright strobe flashes in the attraction, this scene was soon changed as well to not feature lightning.

Anyone know when this change was made? I'm pretty sure it's been in its current incarnation since at least 1976.

(And actually...I like how the 'cardboard cutout' effect looks.)

When I visited the mansion in Orlando for the first time in '76. The lightning effect was still in place in the music room. When I came back it wasn't there anymore.

It really doesn't bother me that much anymore.
